Join a community of writers and finish your novel this year
In 2019, I decided to do an experiment. What if I got 16 aspiring writers together for nine months and coached them through the process of writing a novel from page one? What if they received weekly lessons and assignments to help them get the words on the page? What if I held them accountable by checking in on their word count at the end of each month? What if we met live by video every month to discuss our challenges and successes?
The result was Novel in Nine. Now in its fifth year, Novel in Nine has helped dozens of writers see their books through to the end. Here’s what a few of those writers have said:
“Novel in Nine was much more than a “class” for me, it was a transformation. I had tried for years and years to write a novel, always unsuccessfully. Under Michelle’s guidance, I was able to complete my first novel in a seamless, uncomplicated, and manageable workflow. Her experienced directives help me move through my writing to that final goal. I am forever grateful for this class, and for Michelle’s help. I’d do it again.” Polly K.
“I’ve learned the most from taking this class because it taught me to just show up on the page without fear. Realizing a rough draft is supposed to be rough is just so freeing.” Kim S.
“Novel in Nine was even more than I had expected. Who would imagine I would write a full 75,000-word first draft of a novel in only nine months? This class was always a bright spot in my week…Novel in Nine was the perfect way to make novel writing a priority, and get to THE END in a timely way.” Kathy B.
Why Novel in Nine is different:
There are plenty of pre-packaged video courses you can take which provide little interaction with the instructor. There are also many courses taught by instructors who have little to no experience in publishing. Novel in Nine provides you with one-on-one access to the instructor, a New York Times and internationally bestselling author of eight novels and story collections who also has a long track record in teaching creative writing in Masters of Fine Arts programs in creative writing. More important, it provides you with a small, close-knit community of writers working together through most of the year. And it provides you with accountability.
Instead of a few weeks of feverish creativity followed by inaction, you will write steadily for eight months, writing about 10,000 words per month. Month nine is devoted to revising your novel and crafting your query letter.
If the voice in your head has been saying, “I want to write a novel” for years, yet that novel has yet to materialize, Novel in Nine will help you take the next step.
